In this two-day intensive workshop, artists will learn foundational techniques for capturing a strong likeness while drawing from a live model. Through live demonstrations and individualized, one-on-one critiques, participants will develop the skills needed to create a sensitive, volumetric portrait within a focused two-day timeframe.

June 1 - 5, 2026

Artists will take their drawing to a finish with three-dimensional modeling of form, analysis of light direction, and white chalk for specular highlights. With the aid of one-on-one critiques and instructor demonstrations, participants will learn how to create a naturalistic and volumetric portrait in 5 sessions.

June 8 - 12, 2026

In this 5-day intensive workshop, artists will learn fundamental techniques to creating an accurate and compelling figure painting while working from a live model. Over the course of the workshop, up to thirty hours of studio time with individual instruction will be provided.

This series of workshops is an opportunity to learn many of the key concepts taught at GCA in a short, condensed time frame. Artists will be trained to think sculpturally, to make more accurate decisions, and to create drawings that are true to life.

Artists will take their drawing to a finish with three-dimensional modeling of form, analysis of light direction, and building up the lights with gouache and white chalk. With the aid of one-on-one critiques and instructor demonstrations, participants will learn how to create a naturalistic, painterly, and volumetric portrait in 5 sessions.


Figure Drawing Initensive / Eva Atelier, NYC
August 31 - Sept 4, 2026

Emphasizing keen observation, accurate shapes and proportion, artists will refine their drawings while rendering a naturalistic figure. Artists will be given demos and one-on-one instruction that focuses on a thoughtful combination of visual information and three dimensional form, they are given the best of both worlds; the naturalism and specificity of the optical, and the rock solid sculptural quality of the conceptual.

Sept 14 - 18, 2026

In this 5-day drawing class, students will learn the fundamental techniques for creating both highly accurate and compelling figure drawings whilst working from the live model. Beginning with a linear block-in that focuses on gesture, the visual impression and the underlying structure of the human form, students will learn how to utilize both optical and conceptual drawing methods simultaneously.
